We are proud to announce the acquisition of Northern Energy (Oil) in Harrogate, strengthening our position in the domestic heating oil market.
Established in 1932, Northern Energy originally began collecting milk from the dales farmers and supplying coal to the local community. The business has grown by developing an outstanding reputation for service to domestic and commercial markets.
We are delighted that the existing team of 31 members will remain as the foundation of the business. The team will continue to provide the same, great, local service they have offered throughout the years.
Growth and Focus
This acquisition is the latest in several highly successful depot acquisitions, including Geoff Boorman Fuels (Kent), Sweetfuels (Oxford), Consols Oils (Cornwall) and Darch Oil (Somerset).
NWF Fuels Sales Director, Mark Adcock commented; “When I first joined NWF Fuels in 1989, the company operated just 4 depots. Today, that number has grown to an impressive 27, marking a period of significant expansion and success. Acquisition remains key to our future growth plans, the addition of Northern Energy (Oil) builds on the fact we have successfully acquired and integrated many businesses into the NWF Fuels family.
This growth reflects our commitment to continuous development and our ability to adapt and expand. Over the years, we’ve built extensive knowledge and expertise in identifying and acquiring fantastic family-run businesses, seamlessly bringing them into our network.
We also have an exceptional internal team that ensures the acquisition process is handled quickly, efficiently, and confidentially. A key factor in NWF Fuels’ success lies in its deep industry knowledge and focus on what it does best. Our team’s breadth and depth of expertise enable us to stay true to our core strengths – fuel, which is crucial as we continue to grow.
Looking ahead, the company remains focused on expansion. We’re actively seeking opportunities to grow our business and will continue to acquire.”
Stability & Reputation
When the decision was made to sell Northern Energy (Oil), ensuring the wellbeing of staff and protecting the company’s reputation were top priorities. Speaking about the transition, Howard Illingworth, former owner of Northern Energy, commented:
“When we made the decision to sell the business, our top priorities were the well-being of our staff and safeguarding our reputation. Meeting NWF Fuels solidified the fact that they share these common values as a business. We’re thrilled that the team and business will stay rooted in the local community, continuing to provide the exceptional service our customers rely on.
Their focus as a specialised fuel business, without diversifying into unrelated markets reassures us that our customers will remain their primary focus.”
We wholeheartedly believe our combination of local ownership by the team, coupled with the support and backing of NWF Fuels ensures an unrivalled combination.
Backed by the resources and support of the wider NWF Group, we’ve been able to confidently execute ambitious growth plans. With our proven track record, dedicated team, and robust support, we’re well-positioned to sustain our momentum and drive future growth, focusing on fuels.
