Funding Available for Oil-Heated Homes Across Wiltshire

Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been made available to help Wiltshire households that rely on heating oil. Wiltshire Council, working alongside the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), is providing financial assistance and energy support to eligible residents living in off-grid homes.

With many households still facing pressure from energy costs, support remains available for those who rely on heating oil to heat their homes. However, many eligible residents may not realise that help is available.

Why Apply Now?

Applying during the summer could help avoid delays later in the year when demand for support and heating oil deliveries typically increases.

Residents who qualify may receive financial assistance towards the cost of heating oil, helping reduce pressure on household budgets ahead of the colder months. Support is designed to help vulnerable households stay warm and manage rising living costs.

Support Available

Wiltshire Council has secured additional funding specifically to support households that rely on heating oil. More than £780,000 has been allocated to provide assistance to oil-heated homes across the county.

The scheme can provide:

• Financial assistance towards heating oil costs.
• Support for households experiencing financial hardship.
• Access to energy-saving and fuel efficiency advice through the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
• Help delivered directly through approved suppliers like NWF Fuels where appropriate.

Awards are assessed based on individual circumstances and need rather than a fixed fuel volume.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must live in a household that uses heating oil as its primary form of heating and meet the scheme’s eligibility criteria.

Applicants must either:

• Receive means-tested benefits; or
• Have a household income below £35,000 for a family household, or £28,000 for a single-person household.

In addition, at least one of the following must apply:

• A resident aged 65 or over.
• A child aged five or under living in the household.
• A health condition that may be worsened by living in a cold home.
• A property with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below.

How the Support Works

Any approved funding is normally paid directly to the heating oil supplier and credited to the customer’s account rather than being paid directly to the applicant.

This means households can continue ordering from their chosen supplier while benefiting from the support available.

What You’ll Need to Apply

Applicants may be asked to provide:

• Proof of identity and address.
• Evidence of household income or benefit entitlement.
• Recent bank statements.
• Evidence that the property is heated by oil, such as:
  • A recent heating oil invoice or receipt.
  • A bank statement showing payment to an oil supplier.
  • An EPC certificate or tenancy agreement confirming oil heating.
